Overview

Regent Plan provides tools that enable students to plan, forecast, and track their Financial Aid for both current and future Academic Years in the Student Experience portal. The Course Enrollment Estimation tool is only available to students in term-based programs and provides visibility into current and projected loan indebtedness as well as informs students of aggregate loan amounts and remaining eligibility to complete their program.  A Regent Plan license is required to access the Regent Plan tools available.

Students are able to access the estimation tool from 'What if I Change My Course Enrollment?' link in the Regent Plan tile on the Dashboard or by clicking on the Regent Plan component on the menu to enter it via the Regent Plan Landing page.

Course Enrollment Estimation

The Course Enrollment Estimator tool page allows students to enter either an Enrollment Level (e.g. Full-Time) or a number of Units that they would like to use as an estimate for each term in their Academic Plan.  The Enrollment Level and Units work interchangeably with one another.  For example, if the student selects the Enrollment Level, the number of Units configured as the 'Anticipated Enrollment' is automatically displayed and if the student selects the number of Units, the Enrollment Level is automatically displayed. If a student has actual registration it displays the actual total registered units and the current enrollment level for the term and is only able to be adjusted if the 'Allow Estimations for Registered Units' configuration is enabled and the term has not ended.  Terms that have ended are not able to be updated for estimation purposes.

The current program information displays above the Enrollment Selection tile and provides students with a summary of the total program units, including completed, transfer, and remaining units.  This information, along with the student's start date and anticipated graduation date, is displayed and used for comparison in the estimation tool.

Note:  Schools must have the 'Display Future Academic Years' turned on in the Regent Plan tool in order to estimate the full Academic Plan.

Estimation Results

Upon the student clicking on the 'Estimate & Compare' button, the estimation results will display.  A summary of the results are listed including:

  • Anticipated Graduation Date
  • Full Plan Costs & Financial Aid
  • Total Borrowing and Remaining Aggregate Loan Amounts
  • Estimated Loan Repayment Amounts

The anticipated graduation date is a forecast of the anticipated date based on the program units required and the selections indicated in the Academic Plan.  The Financial Aid amounts and graphical representations are estimated amounts based on a student's current ISIR EFC, NSLDS, and Cost of Attendance.

A Current column, Estimated column, and a Difference column are displayed.  The Current column lists the Anticipated Graduation Date and Financial Aid amounts as it is on the student's current Academic Plan.  The Estimated column uses the same configuration in Regent Plan to calculate an 'estimated' plan.  The Anticipated Graduation Date and Financial Aid amounts are the calculated date and amounts based on the selections indicated by the student in the Enrollment Selection tile on the first page of the Course Enrollment Estimator tool.   The Difference column subtracts the Estimated column from the Current column to derive the additional length of time to graduate and any additional Financial Aid amounts.  All Estimated Loan Repayment information is determined on the current and estimated Academic Plan borrowing amounts.

The Enrollment Selection tab is a non-editable user-friendly view available to review the Enrollment Selection that was provided on the first page.

Save Estimated Plan

Students are able to save the results of their Course Enrollment Estimation by clicking on the 'Save Estimated Plan' button at the bottom of the results screen and providing a Plan Name.

Saved Plan Estimations

Students can access their saved plans by clicking on the Plan Name link in the Saved Plan Estimations tile at the bottom of the Regent Plan Landing page.

When the student accesses their Saved Plan Estimation, the student is taken to a non-editable view of the results page.

Configuration

The Course Enrollment Estimator tool provides two configurable messages.  One message displays at the top of the first page of the tool where the student selects the different enrollment levels and units for each term.  The second message displays at the top of the second page of the tool where the results are displayed to the student.  The configurable messaging allows schools to tailor the messaging for their students.

The 'Allow Estimations for Registered Units' configuration allows a student to estimate the Enrollment Level and/or Units for an open Term within the tool if the student has registered units in a current or future term.  If this configuration is not enabled, students will not be able to estimate the Enrollment Level and/or Units for any term that has registration.

The tool utilizes the current enrollment level and anticipated enrollment level setup configurations used in Regent Award for packaging.  The full-time maximum number of units may be inflated in the enrollment level configuration to account for a larger than normal enrollment level (e.g. Full-Time Maximum = 99).  Therefore, the Maximum Full-Time Units configuration is able to be set to be a more realistic maximum (e.g. 18 units) that can be used as a cap for the number of units the student is able to enter into the tool for estimation purposes.  This configured value is also used as the Maximum Full-Time unit amount in the help text displayed to the students.
